Racing, endurance and competitive sport put people under load, often a long way from the nearest road. Alba EMS provides clinical teams, cycle response, road and 4x4 ambulances and treatment facilities built around the course, not around a standard package.
Course-led planning
The course dictates the cover.
A criterium in a town centre, a hill course on forest tracks and a multi-lap enduro stage each fail in different ways. We plan around the sections where incidents cluster — descents, technical features, the finish straight — and around how long it would realistically take to reach a rider or runner and get them back to a vehicle.
Cover typically combines a static treatment point with mobile teams and, where the route is closed to vehicles, cycle response teams that can reach a patient quickly through the field. Off-road stretcher equipment and 4x4 ambulances handle extraction from ground a road ambulance cannot reach.
We work regularly with series and championship organisers, including the British National Cross Country Series, the SXC MTB Series, the Scottish Enduro Series and the Dunoon Presents Ultra Marathon and Relay.

Sports event medical cover questions
Do you cover participants, spectators or both?
Both. Sports events generate two very different patient groups: injuries among competitors, and medical presentations among spectators, officials and volunteers. The medical plan sets out cover for each rather than assuming one team can absorb everything.
How do you cover a long or looped course?
By splitting the course into sections and positioning teams so that every section has a nearby response, with defined rendezvous points for ambulances. Cycle response teams and 4x4 ambulances are used where a road vehicle cannot follow the route.
Can you provide doctor-level cover for higher-risk sport?
Yes. Consultant-level specialists in pre-hospital emergency medicine, emergency medicine and critical care (ST4+ or MRCEM) are available where the risk assessment supports it, alongside advanced paramedic and advanced nurse practitioners.
Do you work with national governing body requirements?
We build the medical plan around your event's own requirements and the standards it must meet, and we will work to the specification your governing body or sanctioning organisation sets. Send us the requirement at enquiry stage.
What documentation do you provide?
A medical risk assessment, a bespoke medical plan and supporting documentation for your Safety Advisory Group, plus a structured debrief and report after the event.
